It is thought that these new regulations will make for better and closer racing.
Thankfully though after much controversy the ‘halo’ (shown below) will not be introduced for 2017 at least.
For those who don’t know the halo was a radical solution put forward after the late Jules Bianchi’s accident in Japan 2014.
Changes that will be implemented are as follows:
The front wing will be increased in width by 150 mm to 1,800 mm and will also be swept back rather than straight cut, sticking out a further 200mm and with simpler end plates.
It is believed that this will make the car less sensitive to dirty air.
The front tyres will be widened by 60 mm to 305 mm and the rears by 80 mm to 405 mm, providing much more mechanical grip.
The width of the whole car is being increased by 200 mm to 2000 mm, making the cars a lot wider, again providing more mechanical grip.
The floor will have a larger maximum width of 1600 mm with a 100 mm variable edge radii allowing for larger side-pods and creating a sort of ground effect.
The reference plane (lowest part of the car) will be 100 mm further back.
The diffuser will be much bigger at 175 mm high, 1050 mm wide and staring 175 mm in front of the rear axle.

Swept leading edge of the side pods and Larger barge boards with a smaller exclusion zone.
A 200 mm wider rear wing be introduced measuring 950 mm wide, as well as being 150 mm shorter at 800 mm.
They will also have swept and tucked in end plates.
WEIGHT & FUEL
As a result of these changes the cars will be 22 kg heavier than before and thus drivers will be allowed a maximum 105 kg of fuel for the race, 5 more than 2016.
